Statement of Purpose Sample - Canada
I have never questioned the prominence of computer technologies in the development of the modern world. But it wasn’t until I attended an international conference on in and witnessed the various advanced topics being discussed there did I realize the incredible pace at which technologies have been evolving. I learnt how robotics and automation technologies are poised to create a more significant impact on our lives than ever before. Though I was intimidated by these advancements at first, I soon acquired a strong interest in working with automation systems. I am now keen to build a skill-set in these advanced areas through the Robotics degree so that I can use Control Systems, Robotics and Automation as tools to contribute to society at large.
The knowledge that I gained during my undergraduate studies stood me in good stead in all the projects and internships that I completed during college. I worked on my first projects as a Research Intern at Nesan’s Mining and Automation Pvt. Ltd. I had acquired this opportunity based on a design I proposed for an intelligent wearable device that can assist people suffering from dementia. This experience provided me a strong rudimentary understanding of robotics technologies. Whereas for my undergraduate thesis, I worked on developing a ‘Vibration sensor using imaging technique’ which can be used to detect and alert the user about high levels of vibration in a machine or its unit. Working in a team, I provided major contributions by designing the algorithm, programming the camera and sensors, and also contributed to the process of identifying and raising alarms.
Having built a strong technical foundation through my undergraduate experiences, I now look to take the next big step towards realizing my career goals by completing the MS Robotics degree. Armed with the MS degree, I plan to build a career as a designer and consultant in the field robotics and automation, working on challenging projects that would allow me to continually broaden my horizons. After building a strong set of skills, I plan to utilize it to work on projects that can make a difference in the life of people.
To prepare me for this path, I wish to pursue the graduate program at the University of Waterloo as I am certain that it will provide me a comprehensive exposure to areas such as Intelligent Sensors and Wireless Sensor Networks and Adaptive Control thereby paving my path towards great success in my career path. I am also aware of the path-breaking work happening in the Robohub Group; I am looking forward to participating in such associations. I am particularly impressed by the works of Professors Jonathan Kofman and Dana Kulic in their respective areas. I am extremely keen to be associated with their project teams.
I can assure that if given an opportunity, I will make the best use of it and strive to be a worthy alumnus of your esteemed university.
